Training

Training on trade related policy issues is a key area at the Centre. The training targets various groups ranging from trade negotiators, policy advisors, parliamentarians, private sector, labour unions & their members, civil society groups, farmers unions & their members, Small and Medium Enterprises as well as informal traders. The training is done at both national and regional levels. Some of the training done in 2008 is listed below:

Information Dissemination

Information dissemination is one of the key areas of focus at Trades Centre. The information disseminated is that which is generated from the Centre's own research and also from other relevant sources. Instruments used for the dissemination are workshops, conferences, seminars, meetings and publications which also comprise of a quarterly Southern African and Development Newsletter. Most of the information is intended for lobby and advocacy and is used by our target groups who comprise of policy makers, parliamentarians, business community, professionals, NGOs, civil society and the donor community. Research

Core activities at Trades Centre are research, training and advocacy on trade-related policy issues. The research focuses on the nexus between trade and development, aid and development, poverty alleviation and welfare in the context of WTO, ACP-EU co-operation, SADC-EU co-operation, SA-EU co-operation SA-EU trade and economic agreement, regional trade/ economic agreements and national trade and development policies. Central for Trades Centre is providing Southern Africa with technical support and backstopping their positions in multilateral trade negotiations such as ACP-EU EPAs and WTO negotiations and regional trade arrangements.
